There are many different types of security systems to choose from and each alarm monitoring company will have different offerings, but there are two main types that you need to choose from. There are both monitored and unmonitored systems available. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks.
Monitored alarm systems are those most commonly used because they provide the most protection for you and your family. Alarm monitoring gives you peace of mind knowing that your home is being monitored by home security professionals around the clock. These can be either wired or wireless systems, but the important consideration with these systems is that once an alarm is triggered, a signal is sent to the central control station where the police will be called and dispatched to your home.
The benefits of monitored alarm systems are that you have home security providers keeping an eye on your property around the clock and once the alarm is triggered the call station will notify you and the proper authorities. The main drawback to this type of system is that it requires you to pay a monthly monitoring fee for this service.
An unmonitored system will set of a loud siren when the alarm has been triggered, but there is no other action that will take place. This alarm will usually scare off burglars, and will draw the attention of your neighbors and passersby of something amiss, but you will have to rely on them to notify police of an alarm sounding.
The benefits of unmonitored alarms are that there are no monthly fees, only the cost of the equipment, and the loud siren will usually scare off criminals. However, if no one is around to hear the alarm you will not be contacted and the police will not be notified unless your neighbors are around to hear the alarm.
Unmonitored alarm systems are usually less expensive than monitored systems because you only pay the cost of equipment. There is no monthly fee. Alarm monitoring does have many benefits, however, it is up to you to decide which type of system is best for you.
