Putting together a classic bed is something that goes from the floor upwards. It then brings in a lot of different elements from furniture to sheet sets. However, this can give you a very enduring look that you can love for years to come. This is also perfect for a guestroom just because it is something that a lot of people can relate to. Even if the space only gets used a few times a year it can still be quite welcoming without feeling dated. Plus, it’s very gender neutral.
One thing that you should consider is the bed frame itself. A sleigh bed or a four poster bed brings in a richness but also has a very traditional kind of feeling to them. You can also go with just a headboard if you have less room to deal with.
One thing that a lot of people seem to have forgotten lately is a dust ruffle. The really great thing about this is that it allows you to use under the bed storage without anyone really ever knowing about it. The very basic kind of piece would be an eyelet skirt. This can seem a little bit too frilly or feminine so you may just want to go with a very tailored white version or something that matches your sheets as long as it’s in a plain color.
You also want to consider the overall decoration of the bed. If you look at a lot of traditional design magazines you’ll almost always seem to find throw pillows and pillow shams. Of course this does take a little bit longer to make your bed in the morning but it also adds a little bit of a wow factor as well as texture, pattern and interest. It gives a sense of grandeur to even the smallest bed.
