The Space Wolves are a group of aggressive warriors with a different organization from that of other Chapters of the Space Marines. Their background and culture is greatly influenced by the werewolf mythology and the Viking archetype. Of all the Legions of the Space Marines, they were the only ones not to accept the Codex Astartes. The Space Marines are human soldiers boosted to superhuman abilities with surgical modifications and genetic therapy.
The Space Wolves were led by the Primarch Leman Russ and were one of the 20 first founding legions of the Space Marines. They are famous for their intense anti-authoritarian stand. They resisted the Imperium’s central command structure, accepting only the standard tactics useful for the style of warfare. Consequently, they are referred to as both fearless and ill-behaved.
The Space Wolves prefer close combat as their style of fighting. This is because they are warriors armed with blades and axe. They are the most powerful heroes of the Imperium- initially from Fenris but reborn as sky warriors.
Space wolves are a vigorous and interesting force to play on the tabletop, with mighty and captivating heroes like the mysterious Rune Priests, powerful Wolf Lords and Wolf Priests. The whole army is built around these heroes thereby creating an army of fighters that are powerful and committed to humanity.
The journey to becoming a Space Wolf is not an easy one. Beginning as an aspirant, an ordinary man from among the natives of Fenris, they undergo lot of training meant to prepare them mentally and physically for the challenges ahead. They are closely watched by training instructors whose place in the chapters is not known.
The successful ones from these trainings proceed to the Fang to begin the first step needed to become a Space Wolf. On the other hand, the failed candidates are made to serve as bondsmen in the Space Wolves army. These functions will normally include such works as orderlies, clerks and technicians.
The Blood Claw is the lowest rank obtainable. All the successful candidates from the different training groups are brought together into a pack. While in the Fang, they train with old veterans, who teach and watch over them. After a young pack is selected to join a big company, they will continue in that role for a number of years while their number keeps decreasing as a result of death in battle.
Though the Space Wolves culture may look barbaric and wild, they are still the protectors of Mankind and they will do anything to keep it safe for humanity. For more information or to buy Space Wolves models, go to www.greyarmored.com
